Maintain your Sculptures for Years of Enjoyment
Sculptures in bronze and natural stone, crafted by Jan van der Laan, deserve the utmost care. That’s why all our sculptures are finished with special wax (Renaissance wax) for a durable, glossy protection that doesn’t fade. This wax forms a barrier against dirt, fingerprints, and moisture, ensuring your artwork always shines brightly.
Maintenance Tips for Indoor and Outdoor Sculptures
Indoor Sculptures: These require minimal upkeep. Occasional dusting with a soft cloth is sufficient. To enhance the shine, you can apply a layer of Renaissance wax every few years.
Outdoor Sculptures: These deserve extra attention. The patina of bronze sculptures will naturally change color over time due to oxidation, adding character. To maintain their original luster, regularly clean bronze sculptures with a damp cloth or soft brush and water. Treat them twice a year with Renaissance wax.
Stone sculptures like marble and serpentinite types also need regular maintenance against dullness and weathering, similar to bronze sculptures. Alabaster sculptures should stay indoors, as this type of stone weathers easily due to outdoor elements. All stone sculptures should be protected from severe frost. You can wrap them in bubble wrap or temporarily move them indoors.
Sculptures made from porous limestone receive special attention from us – we treat them with an impregnating agent (Cerapol) for protection against the elements.
Bird droppings should be promptly removed with lukewarm water and a soft brush. Never use a high-pressure washer or abrasive sponge to prevent damage.
Take good care of your sculptures, and they will continue to enchant you for years to come!
